About Jonathan Mann

British conductor Jonathan Mann was hailed by Bernard Haitink for the “infectious joy in his conducting and music making”.

Recognised for his energetic and communicative approach, Jonathan has established an international reputation through performances spanning the symphonic, operatic and contemporary repertoire. Recent highlights include appearances with the Ulster Orchestra, Chineke! Orchestra at London’s Royal Festival Hall, Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra and Seongnam Philharmonic Orchestra. His performances have been broadcast by the BBC and S4C.

Jonathan is currently Principal Conductor of Hertford Symphony Orchestra, Music Director of Ensemble Cambrica and Director of the International Conducting Academy (ICA). His recent artistic collaborations have also led to an ongoing relationship with Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble in Belfast.

Alongside his conducting career, Jonathan is increasingly in demand as a conducting mentor, giving masterclasses and workshops internationally. He has taught at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków and Mahidol University (Bangkok), and serves as Consultant for Conducting with the Association for Music in International Schools.

A prize winner at the Jeunesses Musicales International Conducting Competition in Bucharest, Jonathan received both the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra Prize and a Special Jury Prize, leading to his Polish debut with the Kielce Philharmonic Orchestra. He was also selected as one of twenty finalists from more than three hundred applicants for the prestigious Besançon International Conducting Competition.

Jonathan studied conducting at the Royal Academy of Music and Guildhall School of Music & Drama and was Sir Charles Mackerras Junior Fellow in Conducting at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
